SHOT BLAST:
Shot blasting is one of the most popular and effective methods to clean and prepare contamination on steel. Steel grit is shot at the steel at high velocity/pressure which removes all debris, dirt and oxidiation leaving a clean and keyed surface for the following primer and top coat.
SAS Coatings also offers an alternative treatment process for items which cannot be shot blasted, for these items the pre-treatment process will involve applying a coating which will impart an iron phosphate conversion coating ready for the following primer and top coat
PRIMER:
Primers are a very important part of the treatment process, they have 2 purposes which are to protect against the effects of environmental exposure and to provide a better surface to which the top coat can adhere to.
SAS Coatings work with Akzo Nobel products ensuring the best quality at all times.
POWDER COATING:
Powder coating is a dry finishing process which gives a high quality, durable finish. The powder is applied by a process called electrostatic spray deposition (ESD), the application method uses a spray gun which applies an electrostatic charge to the powder particles which are attracted to the grounded part. After application the parts enter a curing oven, with heat the coating chemically reacts to produce modular chains resulting in high cross link density which are very resistant to breakdown.
WET SPRAY COATING:
Wet spraying is a process in which liquid paint is mixed and fed through an air gun using compressed air to atomise and direct the paint particles to the object.
Wet spraying is ideal for items which either cannot tolerate the high temperatures involved in the powder coating process, too large for ovens or requires a very specialised coating for extra long life in more harsh environmental conditions
SAS Coatings have access to consultants with accreditation in the Institute of Corrosion Level 3 and are committed to the personal progress of staff to achieve this level.
